Vermont Agency for Agriculture, Food and Markets Is your business part of the agricultural and forestry economy? Do you need financing for a capital project you are planning? The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative has funding available through its Business Improvement Grant, formerly known as the Business Standard Grant.

The Business Improvement Grant can fund projects up to $35,000 that focus on market development, research and development, infrastructure, energy, training and workforce development. work, and more!

Projects must have 100% (one for one) consideration which may be cash or a combination of cash and in-kind items. Projects must be completed within 12 months.

Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival

Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival

The 34th Annual Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival is coming to Tunbridge this weekend! The Festival aims to showcase natural fibers and fiber arts while entertaining the public and promoting small farms and fiber businesses.

This year’s festival has everything from vendors and a fleece show/sale to fiber arts classes, shearing demonstrations and an animal barn!

The festival starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday October 1 and ends at 5 p.m. on October 2. You can view the full program here.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Advance tickets not required, just come to Tunbridge Showground!

The Agriculture Agency collects monthly data from beef producers across the state to produce reports highlighting retail and wholesale beef prices.

If you’re a consumer interested in getting beef at a fair price or a producer trying to price your products accurately, these reports should be a helpful and up-to-date resource.

The data is collected with financial assistance from the USDA Market News Division. You can click here to access last month’s report.

Five Star Course on the Farm

Have you thought about adding overnight stays to your farm or ranch? Here’s a way to help you get off to a good start without reinventing the wheel.

Five-Star Farmstays is a course aimed at taking you into the real homestay experience with practical and helpful tips to increase your farming income.

The course includes self-paced online modules as well as resource materials to keep forever. There’s also live Q&A, a private Facebook group cohort, and email access to get your questions answered.

The course is taught by Jenn Colby, owner of Howling Wolf Farm and farm host, Randolph.

The course costs $199 and can be paid for in installments. Registration is mandatory.

This free 3 hour webinar will cover how cow vaccines work, what diseases they can prevent and how to select the right vaccines for your herd.

Dr. Dayna Locitzer has over 10 years of experience working with pasture dairies in the Northeast. She currently works as a large animal veterinarian at the Green Mountain Bovine Clinic in Chesterfield, New Hampshire.
