The Braintree Police Department continues to honor the legacy of a K-9 who was killed in action this year. The Belgian Malinois was shot and killed by a suspect on June 4 and died of his injuries. He served the Braintree Police Department for over a decade. All proceeds from the sale of each Kitt stuffed animal, which are $ 20 each, will go to the Braintree Police Working Dog Foundation. The funds will be specifically used to fund a K-9 memorial at the Braintree Police Department. The K-9 Kitt Memorial Fund will put the stuffed animals up for sale at upcoming events, but they are currently sold at American Reflective with a supply. American Reflective is located at 224 Commercial St., and those wishing to purchase a stuffed animal should visit Danielle between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. In 2016, Kitt was awarded the Braintree Police Medal of Valor for his protection of several officers during an armed confrontation. In July 2020, Kitt and Cushing located the suspect in a South Shore Plaza shooting that resulted in serious injuries and the foreclosure of the property. After a long trail of more than an hour, Kitt located and apprehended the suspect who was hidden in a densely vegetated swamp, police said.
