Caitlin Cronin, 13, who will be a freshman at Darien High School in the fall, and 16 friends raised $1,000 for the Grassroots and Education tennis program.

Caitlin raised funds through a tennis tournament she organized to benefit the program. The doubles round robin, held at Middlesex Country Club in Darien, received accolades from the programme, who praised her on her Instagram account for her “incredible initiative”.

Junior Girl Scouts win bronze award

Members of the Tokeneke Fifth Grade Junior Girl Scout Troop #50421 earned their bronze medals for completing a Camping Badge, Eco-Camping Badge and Animal Habitats Badge as well as a “action plan”.

The troupe celebrated the award with an encampment.

The Girl Scouts have also created a “Kindness Rocks Garden” in the yard of Tokeneke Primary School. Students at all levels of the school were able to design rocks for the garden that included positive messages such as “Be kind” and “Love everyone”.

The plan is to have new kindergartners add rock messages as they enter the school.

The garden was dedicated to Tokeneke’s former headmistress, Mary Michelson, who retired in 2021.

Community fund to celebrate the awards

The Darien Community Fund will hold its Community Investment Awards Celebration from 5-6.30pm on July 13 at its head office, 274 Middlesex Road.

The celebration, which is open to the public, is designed to recognize local nonprofits in Darien, Norwalk and Stamford that focus on basic needs, community health, youth success and workforce development. work, said Jessica Anderson, the nonprofit’s new Director of Advancement and Marketing.

Thrift Shop does not accept certain donations

The Darien Community Association Thrift Shop will not be accepting donations of fall or winter clothing until September.

The organization has received an overwhelming number of donations and needs time to sort and organize them, staff said.

DCA prepares for sidewalk sales

The Darien Community Association is preparing the Darien Thrift Shop for the city’s sidewalk sales scheduled for July 14, 15 and 16. at 4 p.m. every three days.

The Darien Community Association has announced part of its fall season of programming, with updates planned as more dates are set.

Weekly meetings of the Men’s Association will resume at 10 a.m. on September 7.

New doubles bridge classes will resume at 12:30 p.m. on September 12.

The Darien Community Association Thrift Shop Fashion Show will take place on September 15.

A demo on “Skyhunters in Flight: Birds of Prey” is scheduled for 2 p.m. on October 2.

The Greenhouse Group’s Fall Gardening Workshop will take place at 10 a.m. on October 18 and 28.

Darien will be the site of the Fairfield County Dance Festival

Thomas Ortiz/Dance Company and East Coast Contemporary Ballet Company are hosting a free outdoor public dance festival at Weed Beach, 155 Nearwater Lane, Darien at 7pm on July 26.

The rainy date is July 27.

The dance festival takes place over six summer evenings at multiple locations including New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield and Bridgeport.
