FORT DRUM – Fort Drum announced Thursday that Maj. Gen. Milford H. Beagle Jr., commander-in-chief of Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division, has been promoted to lieutenant general and will take command of the Fort Leavenworth Combined Arms Center in Kansas.
“Promotions are a vote of confidence, a slap in the face that you’ve done something right – and for that I’m grateful and motivated for the next challenge,” Maj. Gen. Beagle said in a press release. “But it’s bittersweet, because we hate to leave Fort Drum, the North Country and this proud team at Climb to Glory.”
Major General Beagle previously served as deputy commanding general at Fort Drum and returned in July 2021 to serve as senior commander.
He had also served as Director General of the 35th Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, Deputy Commanding General (Support), forward deployed in support of Operation Inherent Result in Kuwait and 51st Commanding General in US Army training center at Fort Jackson. .
“Until I turn our flag over to the commander of the 18th Airborne Corps to pass to someone else, I am completely present here and focused on Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division,” said Major General Beagle.
Major General Beagle added that he felt lucky to have returned to Fort Drum last year.
“When Pam and I found out we were going back to Fort Drum, we couldn’t believe our luck,” he said. “We knew this time around we were running out of jobs to push for a return posting. We are committed to being open to experience, seizing every opportunity to lead and learn, and savoring every minute.
An announcement has yet to be made on Fort Drum’s next commander or when the change of command will take place.
