San Andreas, CA… Meet Oprah, an adorable sleek black feline with long legs and a super shiny tail and coat. Oprah is around three years old and can be shy when she first meets new people, but she really enjoys the attention once she gets to know you. She has a calm personality and loves having her ears and head scratched. In fact, she encourages you to continue by gently licking your hand.

This sweet girl would probably do best in a quiet home without young children who may not understand the need to “take it slow” and give her time to adjust to a new home. She has also never been outside and should remain a kitty indoors only. As with all cats available for adoption, Oprah is up to date with her routine vaccinations and has been microchipped. Already sterilized, she can go home today!

Come visit Oprah, pound no. AO48080 with other cats and dogs awaiting permanent homes at Calaveras County Animal Services, 901 Jeff Tuttle Drive, San Andreas (at the government center near the new prison). Animal services are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday (closed for lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.). For more information on this kitten, please email Animal Services Volunteer Cynthia at [email protected], Kathy at [email protected] or call Animal Services directly at 754- 6509. Please refer to Oprah’s pound number when making inquiries.

Currently, the Calaveras Refuge remains open to visitors wishing to adopt. However, we limit viewing to one person at a time for COVID precautions. Please understand that there may be a wait to see the animals at the shelter, many of whom are still waiting for their homes forever. Adoptable animals can also be found on the web at and on the Calaveras County Animal Services Facebook page.

Volunteers are also in great demand. Whether you can donate a little time or a lot, we would appreciate your help in caring for the animals in the shelter or in the office. No experience necessary; we will provide training and tailor you to your interests. Please call 754-6509 for more information.

Animal Services now has a flexible fee program!

When the dog or cat population at the shelter is at or above 80% capacity, the total adoption fee will be 50% – reduced to $ 40 for dogs and $ 30 for cats. The adoption fee for cats arriving at the shelter already modified is $ 10. With the 55-5-5 program, each time an adopter is 55 or older and adopts an animal over 5 years old, the adoption fee is $ 5.
