Columbus, Ohio – Below please find a statement from Brittany Peet, Deputy General Counsel for the PETA Foundation for Captive Animal Law Enforcement, regarding the Zoos and Aquariums Association’s announcement that she is refusing the ‘accreditation to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, in large part because of its record of providing unlicensed facilities with baby animals for entertainment purposes:

By refusing to approve facilities that ship big cats to King Tiger –Roadside zoo style, the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) has once again distinguished itself from unsavory “accreditation” operations such as American Humane and the Zoological Association of America. PETA celebrates the move for alerting AZA accredited zoos to keep vulnerable baby animals out of operating hands and for reminding the public to stay away from companies that sell baby tigers as chess pieces.

PETA – whose motto says, in part, that “animals are not ours for entertainment” – opposes speciesism, a worldview of human supremacy. For more information on PETA’s information gathering and investigative reporting, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, Where Instagram.
