BATH, SD — The FFA Foundation of South Dakota is proud to establish the Fred and Joan DeRouchey Family Endowment, thanks to an inherited gift from Fred and Joan DeRouchey. The fund will be used to support young people interested in animal science and the important work of feeding and educating the world about where their food comes from.
Interest from the endowment will provide an annual scholarship to a high school graduate member of the South Dakota FFA pursuing a degree in animal science at South Dakota State University. Preference will be given to FFA members from Hoven and Potter County.
Fred and Joan DeRouchey created the fund because FFA has been important to them and their children. Fred and their three sons, Jon, Joel and Jeff were all active in the FFA, are currently involved in farming today and are committed to supporting the future of the farming industry.
Several grandchildren are current members of the Kansas FFA and the family has three generations of state FFA degree holders and hopefully soon three generations of US FFA degree holders.
The DeRouchey family has ties to the Mitchell, Chamberlain and Hoven FFA programs where they learned leadership and developed their passion for animal agriculture. Through this endowment, the family gives back by helping young enthusiasts to serve the animal sector.
Fred DeRouchey shares: “We hope our example will instill in everyone an attitude of gratitude for all the positive things the FFA has given them. Joan and I are grateful for what FFA has given us, our sons and our grandchildren.
“The need for quality leaders in animal agriculture is greater than ever,” said Gerri Ann Eide, executive director of the FFA Foundation of South Dakota. “The DeRoucheys recognize this need and we greatly appreciate their dedication to supporting young people interested in animal science. Their gift creates a legacy for their family while meeting the needs of FFA members who are our future agricultural leaders.
